4.13 Cooling Fan Function & Fan Fail Annunciation Test
These tests prescribed in this section verify proper operation of the display and avionics cooling fans and
the fan failure annunciation logic. For aircraft equipped with software version 0321.23 or later only,
perform these tests every 250 flight hours or every aircraft annual, whichever comes first.
4.13.1 Display Cooling Fan Function Test
1. With the G1000 avionics system powered normally, temporarily remove the PFD from the
instrument panel by rotating each of the four ¼ turn fasteners counter-clockwise. Remove the
PFD from the instrument panel and hold by hand (do not disconnect harness).
2. Visually observe and verify the PFD cooling fan located in the lower left corner of the panel
opening is operating correctly. The fan is operating correctly when observed to be spinning and
generating airflow and is not otherwise obstructed by foreign debris such as dust or dirt.
3. Put the PFD back into position in the instrument panel and secure the ¼ turn fasteners.
4. Temporarily remove the MFD from the instrument panel by rotating each of the four ¼ turn
fasteners counter-clockwise. Remove the MFD from the instrument panel and hold by hand (do
not disconnect harness).
5. Visually observe and verify the MFD cooling fan located in the lower left corner of the panel
opening is operating correctly. The fan is operating correctly when observed to be spinning and
generating airflow and is not otherwise obstructed by foreign debris such as dust or dirt.
6. Place the MFD back into position in the instrument panel and secure the ¼ turn fasteners.
4.13.2 PFD & MFD Fan Fail Annunciation Test
1. With the G1000 avionics system powered normally, open the CDU FAN circuit breaker.
2. Verify amber PFD FAN FAIL and MFD FAN FAIL caution annunciations are posted to the PFD
CAS window.
3. Press the CAUTION softkey.
4. Verify the PFD FAN FAIL and MFD FAN FAIL annunciations are acknowledged and are moved
down the CAS alert list.
5. Close the CDU FAN circuit breaker.
6. Verify that the amber ‘PFD FAN FAIL’ and ‘MFD FAN FAIL’ CAS annunciations are
extinguished.
4.13.3 Avionics Bay Cooling Fan Function Test
1. Remove the baggage compartment cover to gain access to the remote avionics enclosure.
2. Detach seat belts.
3. Remove baggage compartment shell.
4. Loosen the hose clamp then remove the cooling duct from the remote avionics enclosure inlet
(refer to Figure 4-20).
5. With the G1000 avionics system powered normally, listen for fan noise and check for positive air
flow (suction) from the inlet going into the remote avionics enclosure.
