Page 2-12 G1000 System Maintenance Manual – Diamond DA40/40F
Revision G 190-00545-01
Above the maximum engage limit, ESP is not provided. The maximum thresholds for deactivation of the
ESP system on the Diamond DA 40 are as follows:
Roll threshold deactivation outside of normal roll envelope is 75 degrees for both the left and
right roll conditions.
Roll threshold deactivation returning to normal roll envelope is 30 degrees for both the left and
right roll conditions.
Pitch threshold deactivation outside of normal pitch envelope is 20 degrees for pitch up and 23
degrees for pitch down.
Pitch threshold deactivation returning to normal pitch envelope is 10 degrees for pitch up and 13
degrees pitch down.
High Airspeed threshold deactivation occurs when the normal airspeed is 175 KIAS.
Once ESP protection is being provided and ESP is active for 50% of the last 20 seconds, the autopilot
engages in LVL mode returning the aircraft to a level flight envelope. When the autopilot engages
automatically an aural “ENGAGING AUTOPILOT” alert sounds and the Flight Director mode
annunciations will indicate LVL for the pitch and roll modes.
The pilot can interrupt the ESP function in manual flight by pressing and holding either the Control
Wheel Steering (CWS) or Autopilot Disconnect (AP DISC) switch. ESP can also be overridden by
overpowering the servo’s ESP electronic torque limit.
ESP and Autopilot are mutually exclusive functions and have separate electronic torque limits for its
specific function.
The pilot may also disable ESP by accessing the Multi-Function Display (MFD) Auxiliary System Setup
page on the MFD and manually disabling ESP. If the MFD circuit breaker is cycled while on the ground
or in flight the G1000 system will default ESP to “Enabled”. An advisory message is posted on the
G1000 when ESP is disabled
