G1000 System Maintenance Manual – Diamond DA40/40F Page 3-47

3.5.17 Terrain/Obstacle Database Cards
NOTE
If the G1000 is to be equipped with the FliteChart or ChartView display options, the appropriate
databases are required to be loaded onto the Terrain/Obstacle cards before they are installed in the
displays. ChartView database subscription services must be procured directly from Jeppesen and are
usually sourced by the aircraft owner. Further, the ChartView feature must be ‘unlocked’ before the
G1000 can use the databases (see 3.5.10).
There is no unlock card for Garmin FliteCharts. A single cycle of Garmin FliteCharts is loaded on
the database cards when they are manufactured at Garmin. Additional FliteChart database updates
are obtained directly from Garmin’s web site and are updated on a periodic basis. The G1000
automatically detects the FliteChart databases and activates the display feature. If the G1000 detects
a ChartView database and a FliteCharts database, it will always activate the ChartView database.
1. Remove power from the PFD and MFD using the respectively labeled breakers.
2. Insert the two database cards into the lower slots of the MFD and PFD, respectively. Refer to the
appropriate General Arrangement drawing for correct card part numbers.
3.5.18 Navigation Database Loading
Follow this procedure to load the navigation database:
1. Remove power from the PFD and MFD.
2. Insert an SD card containing the latest cycle Jeppesen navigation database (data supplied by
Jeppesen) into the top slot of the MFD.
3. Apply power to the PFD and MFD. A prompt similar to the following will be displayed on the
MFD:
4. Select the YES softkey to confirm the standby navigation database update.
5. After the database is updated, a prompt similar to the following will be displayed on the MFD:
6. Select the NO softkey.
7. The system will synchronize and automatically update as necessary. Monitor the synchronization
process on the AUX – SYSTEM STATUS page in the SYNC STATUS sub-section within the
DATABASE window This sub-section is only present when a sync is occurring or has occurred
on the current power cycle.
