5.17 GSR 56 Troubleshooting

Symptom Recommended Action
No communication with GSR 56
• Check power wiring and pin out of GSR 56 unit.
• Ensure GSR 56 configuration option has been loaded. See Section 3.5 for
the configuration procedure.
No or low-quality Iridium signal
• Ensure the Iridium antenna has an unobstructed view of satellite
constellation.
• Check the Iridium antenna cable and connectors.
• Verify antenna ground plane is adequate.
No audio output
(GDL 59/GSR 56 Combination
Option Only)
• Check wiring from GSR 56 to the GDL 59 for the GDL 59 / GSR 56
Combination option.
• Verify subscription with Garmin Flight Data Services (reference Section
3.5.14).
Unable to make a phone call
(GDL 59/GSR 56 Combination
Option Only)
• Verify signal quality is adequate.
• Check wiring from GSR 56 to the GDL 59 for the GDL 59 / GSR 56
Combination option.
• Verify subscription with Garmin Flight Data Services (reference Section
3.5.14).

GSR1 has failed.
The GDL 59 indicated a failure
state for GSR56 #1 for the
GDL 59 / GSR 56 Combination
option.
GIA # 2 has indicated a failure
state for GSR56 #1 for the
Standalone GSR 56 option.
Ensure GDL 59 is receiving power.
Check wiring from GSR 56 to the
GDL 59 for the GDL 59 / GSR 56
Combination option.
Check wiring from GSR 56 to the #2
GIA 63 for the Standalone GSR 56
option.
Replace GSR 56 if problem persists.
REGISTER GFDS
Data services are
inoperative, register w/
GFDS.
The G1000 is not registered with
GFDS or its current registration
data has failed authentication.
Verify subscription with Garmin Flight
