7.1 GDU 104X MFD & PFD
Original Display Reinstalled
If the removed display(s) are re-installed in their original positions, no software or configuration loading
is required. This does not include units that were returned for repair as their software and configuration
files are deleted during the repair testing process or for displays swapped between aircraft. Continue to
the PFD/MFD Test section.
Original Displays Installed in Opposite Configurations
If the PFD and MFD are installed in opposite positions, no software or configuration loading is required.
Continue to the PFD/MFD Test procedure. For GFC 700 aircraft, the displays cannot remain in the
swapped positions. The GDU 1042 or 1044 must be installed in the MFD position for the autopilot to
operate. Continue to the PFD/MFD Test procedure.
New Display(s) Installed
If a new, repaired, or exchange GDU is installed; the correct software, configuration and Jeppesen
aviation database files must be loaded to the unit. Retain the database SD card(s) from the original
display to install in the new display after loading software.
If TAWS, ChartView, ESP, Enhanced SAR and SVS options were previously installed, these must be
reactivated. See Sections 3.5.9, 3.5.10, 3.5.11, 3.5.12 and 3.5.13 respectively.
CAUTION
If replacing the PFD with a new, repaired, or exchanged GDU, the new GDU must be
placed in the MFD location and the GDU system files loaded there to prevent calibration
and other configuration data residing in the PFD config module from being deleted. It is
not necessary to install a display in the PFD position to load GDU software into a display
installed in the MFD position.
NOTE
Clearing User Settings is required for the initial software installation in a replacement
display. It is recommended for successive software loads in the same display, but not
required.
7.1.1 New PFD Software and Configuration Update
This section applies only to those aircraft that are replacing existing PFD display with a new PFD display
unit.
STOP!
PRIOR to applying power to the aircraft, ensure the existing PFD display is
currently installed in the aircraft.
1. Install the new PFD into the MFD position.
2. Place the correct G1000 software loader card which is applicable for the desired STC
configuration in the top card slot (see appropriate GA drawing in Table 1-2).
3. Ensure there is no database cards inserted in the MFD and PFD lower card slots. If there are,
remove them until instructed to install them.
4. Turn on the ground power unit.
5. Turn on the BAT side master switch.
6. Turn on the AVIONICS MASTER switch. At this moment, all G1000 equipment should be
receiving power.
