New, Repaired, or Exchanged GIA 63(s) Installed
If a new, repaired or exchanged GIA 63 is installed, the correct software and configuration files must be
loaded to the unit. Continue to the software and configuration loading procedure.
7.3.1 GIA Software and Configuration File Loading
If a new, repaired or exchanged GIA is installed the correct software and configuration files must be
loaded. Follow the procedure below to load the files.
1. Remove the bottom SD cards from the displays. Note which one was removed from the MFD so
it may be identified later for reinsertion in the MFD when software and configuration loading are
complete. It might contain a FliteChart® or ChartView database which is only used in the MFD
2. Insert the correct G1000 software loader card that matches the existing G1000 system software
version in the PFD top card slot.
3. Start the displays in configuration mode.
4. On the PFD, go to the System Upload Page using the small FMS knob.
5. Push the FMS knob to activate the cursor, then rotate the small FMS knob to display a drop-down
menu in the AIRFRAME field. Turn the small FMS knob to highlight the correct airframe model
(DA40 or DA40 F) in the menu and press the ENT key.
6. Once an airframe type is selected the cursor moves to the FILE field. Rotate the small FMS knob
to active the drop-down menu. Move the cursor to highlight the appropriate GIA63 model
(WAAS or non-WAAS) and press ENT.
IMPORTANT!
It is at this step where the choice is given to load WAAS or non-WAAS G1000
software. Be sure to select the correct option. Loading the wrong software into
GIA63/63W units may cause an inoperable condition that is not covered by
warranty. No warning appears if the wrong software is selected. If unsure of
which selection to make, turn off the cursor and go back to the SYSTEM
STATUS configuration page to check which model of GIA63 unit is installed.
7. Press the CLR ALL softkey.
8. Using the FMS knob and ENT key, select the following files. Some files may have a red INV in
place of the software or configuration boxes, this indicates those files do not need to be loaded.
GIA (1 or 2) – software and configuration files
GPS or WAAS (1 or 2) – software file
NAV (1 or 2) – software files
COM (1 or 2) – software and configuration files
